LA2DAY ROULETTE - THE LA WEEKEND AGENDA FOR SEPTEMBER 7th - 12th
By Sasha Perl-Raver FOR LA2DAY.COM 05 Sep 2007

1) LA County Fair, Do your best Wilbur impression:

Their commercials may suck, but the experience is unrivaled. Get ho-down and dirty with some straight off the farm fun at the LA County Fair. Where else can you find goat milking, pig racing, and Heart, all in one place? (Yes, Barracuda/Magic Man Heart!) This year the Grandstand will host performers that vary from Ciara to the B-52's to Earth, Wind and Fire so everyone can find something to groove to. You can also enjoy The High School Marching Battle of the Bands, a faux Winter Wonderland and a pie eating contest. The whole experience feels like a kinder, gentler time and opening day brings the nostalgia all the way home with a $1 ticket price from 11am-5pm. Shoot, Pomona ain't that far away!

Does life get any better?
In celebration of its' 30th anniversary, the film that garnered The Dancing Queen his first Oscar nomination is playing for two nights only so grab your boogie shoes and hustle on down to the Arclight. Dancing in the aisles is both appreciated and expected as is warbling along with the greatest soundtrack of all time (or at least the best selling). If you need inebriation inspiration, the "Booze Cruise" 21 and over Theater will host the Monday night screening for all you kids who are allowed to stay up late on a school night. Dig it! Polyester and platforms never looked to cool. Tony and Stephanie Fuh'eva!

3) Tom Sachs, Rocket Man:

Tom Sachs has made a name as an architectural artist with a flair for the unexpected or irreverent. He's also earned a reputation of being antagonistic and anti-consumption. One well known piece is a chain saw that loudly brandishes "CHANEL" that he titled "Chanel Guillotine", not kidding. He's taken his status as Bricolage Mack Daddy (bricolage = a fancy French word for DIY, do it yourself) to a new level with his Jetsons gone Kubrick homage to NASA entitled Space Program. When an art bad boy comes to play, how can you not turn up to witness the fireworks, especially when they're housed in the ‘210. Mmmm, irony, cocktails, and art, we likey the combo!
Reception for the artist: Saturday September 8th 6pm-8pm
Gagosian Gallery
456 N Camden Dr
Beverly Hills, CA 90210
310-271-9400

Space Program runs September 8th-October 13th
4) Hall and Oates, I CAN go for that!

Name me a man that had a better ‘stache in the 80's besides Magnum! John Oates, now facial hair free (which seems so wrong on so many levels), and his good buddy Daryl Hall are coming to town to rock us through the night with hits like "Rich Girl", "Maneater", and "I Can't Go For That (No Can Do)". Pack a picnic, a lighter, and some acid wash because nostalgia is going to flood the Hollywood Bowl this weekend. There's a reason they've sold over 60 million albums and have been sampled more than any other band in history. It's time for some Rock n' Soul!
Hollywood Bowl

Hollywood, CA 90068

Friday September 7th and Saturday September 8th at 8:30pm
5) Avenue Q, Sesame Street gets Dirrrty:

Ahhhem, I give you an excerpt from Avenue Q's, "My Girlfriend, Who Lives in Canada"...
Her name is Alberta/
She live in Vancouver/
She cooks like my mother/
And sucks like a Hoover.
With fine lyricsmanship like this, is it any wonder why this musical swept the 2004 Tonys? Performed by puppets and people (both with dirty mouths and, seemingly, a dose of sodium pentothal), this show takes the goody two shoes world of PBS where people are happy to live in a trash can and brings it to the real world where life sucks, housing is impossible to find, the job market is crushing and sunny days don't sweep the clouds away. The final result is hilarious, uplifting, and timely.
Avenue Q runs from September 7th through October 14th
Ahmanson Theater
135 N. Grand Ave
Los Angeles, CA 90012

Sunday: 1pm and 6:30pm
