The Price of Fitting In

Imagine wearing a tshirt and jeans. Now imagine that the two of them combined cost more than, I don't know, the average yearly expenditure of a family of four on food. This is the cost of fitting in America's poshest circles of wealth.

These days, "fitting in" means ridiculously expensive couture clothing that would bust even the most immodest budgets. We have thrown together a littany of the most egregious examples of modern-day fashion-extravagence.

Price of Fitting In - Top

Swarovski Tshirt
Actually, this wasn't close to the most expensive tshirts we found, some of which went for over $10,000. We thought we would be reasonable and go with the more affordable, $1,300 tee from Swarovski.

Russian Lynx Coat
Once again, not even close to the most expensive jacket we found, which cost well over $500,000 (imagine a coat made solely out of the labels of similarly expensive coats.) Fur, while perhaps un-PC, still trumps as the biggest dollar spender for jackets.

Fendi "B.Bag"
The next time your wife or girlfriend begs you for a bag, just be happy she has tastes a little less expensive than this $27,000 baby.

Swarovski Jeans
If you are noticing the trend, apparantly it is cool to cover whatever you have in crystals: t-shirts, jeans, cell phones. And no, we aren't talking about a "Bedazzler", we are talking real crystal from Swarovski. Banking in at $10K, these are some of the most expensive jeans money can buy.

Selfridges Belt
Maybe for some more promiscuous Hollywooders, spending $41,000 to hold up your pants wouldn't be a bad idea. But as a fashion statement?

Manolo Blahnik Boot
Remember when kids were getting beat up over their $140 Jordan's. Imagine taking 100 of those shoes and fabricating them together to make one super shoe. That would be roughly the same cost as a single pair of these.
