Favorite Lounge- Cha Cha Lounge - "Little Joy Cocktail Lounge" If ugly were the new sexy, then 'Little Joy Cocktail Lounge" would be the Ugly Betty of Lounges. A stone throw away from swankier bars like "Short Stop" and the "Gold Room," "Little Joy" looks like the inside of a converted garage complete with missing ceiling tiles and a porta potty-sized DJ box . But rather than being an eyesore, "Little Joy" endears with attractive bartenders, cash only cheap drinks, and a customer base that hasn't seen the inside of a department store in decades. The artsy chic and punk rocker flair is embodied by a dedication to thrift store shopping that borders on an obsession with the weird. The stranger the outfit, the better. Amid posters of local rock bands and wanted ads, an indie mix of music p lays at a subtle roar. This crowd of young 20 somethings and aging scenesters assemble around a singular pool table and mingle in its dimly lit corners. Though a little on the snooty side, fellow clientele avoid line cutting at the bar and even manage to shift their buns to make room for you on the cracked vinyl seats. "Little Joy" is an adventure into the dirty life with the ego of a premier Los Angeles nightclub. You won't hear about it on "The Hills," but you're guaranteed to have more interesting company.

Favorite Bar-
Short Stop
Snuggled amid a strip of down and out bars in the middle of Echo Park, "Short Stop" hovers somewhere between undiscovered hot spot and thriving dive. The bar itself is saturated in a reddened burlesque lighting that makes maneuvering through its various hallways in a pair of heels dangerous chore. But once the puddles of beer have been carefully side-stepped, the cave-like darkness reveals a delightful mix of dance club meets dive bar. A spinning disco ball unveils a dance floor the size of a small living room with music ranging anywhere from The Supremes to 90's techno. With leftover decor from its days as a cop hangout spot, baseball memorabilia lines the walls along with stadium seats huddled near leather booths. While the music and decor are welcoming to swingers who tire of the same old bump and grind of Hollywood clubs, many dancers move with such abandon that finding an empty inch in the packed space can be an exhausting endeavor. But luckily for customers the bar has three rooms with a different emphasis in each. You might have to fight to buy drinks at the insanely crowded bar and shove past drunken hipsters on the dance floor, you can always take a breather in the side room with a pool table and pinball machine. With a swarm of people that range from East side bros to Silver lake hipsters lining up outside the door on a busy Saturday night, the short wait is worth the inexpensive drinks and amazing DJs.

Favorite Club-
Thursdays @ The Avalon

Host to a variety of venues ranging from the 18 and up homosexual hot spot ‘Tigerheat" to the 60's chic of adjacent Spider Club, "The Avalon" offers a decadent face to the age old act of partying. Though the drinks can be a bit pricey and watered down, the environment of the historic theater mixes with neon lighting to create an atmosphere of drinking with class. Recently renovated, the inside of the building has been returned to the glory days of when it first opened in 1927, with classic Hollywood glamour and contemporary style. The DJs aren't afraid to blast the latest Madonna hit alongside Soulja Boi's "Crank Dat" to keep the well lit dance floor packed at all times. While the kind of people there all depends on the theme of the night, Thursday nights is always choice for a zoo of young gays, scantily clad girls, and well dressed hotties. The outside of "The Avalon" can look like an un-welcoming war zone with little to no parking that is expensive or free with a long walk, but with a go-go stage, constant CD give aways, and drag queen performances throughout DJ sets, "The Avalon" makes for an exciting Thursday night out. Be sure to also check its venue for bands performances as well as swanky dining as each night is an entirely different experience.
