The Blinding Lights-
By Jonathan Reed FOR LA2DAY.COM 05 Jul 2007

I see soccer players running in the dark; chasing the dusk. Unadulterated freedom. Running free. Unadulterated freedom. There worries seem far removed from them. I mirror our confines to this article and realize, the musical artists freedom is sickly compared to the freedom of these players.
Kelly Clarkson's upcoming album "My December", tipifies the artists walking into a light. This light starts dim and eventually brightens so, that the path once that was light with comely feet is now unrecognizable. A bright stage, is lit for those who are the ringmasters can see only to lead most artist, paralyzed, stumbled, and stuck. The question is then begged: Do you still need a vision in order to create a compelling album? Or is following the produced mold, the way to music Utopia?" If we are to truly ponder this Utopian theme, there are two things that come to mind:
[1] Forsaking oneself for the means to project an image for those to follow.
[2] Relinquishing ones inner-self, to fullfil their ultimate dream.
This music Utopia that many try to achieve; fade in the background because many do become lost. Drugs compel their lifestyles, money deludes their moral system; and alcohol is the potent drug that fuels the anger, bitterness and anger. One asks then, what is the use of chasing these blinding lights? The quick answer: Money. Fame.
One has to carry their own load and see that the picture painted is the picture of a corporate machine. MATCHBOX TWENTY summed it up in "BRIGHT LIGHTS"; Maybe, Maybe, Maybe, you'll find someone to keep you; but if those bright lights don't recieve you, you betta' turn around and come on home." Why? Anyone as an artists know, the depths and strings that one can get caught in when flailing to try to make a HIT RECORD.
So all my children, stay from those bright lights, that glittered bath. Once the glitter does lose its sparkle, so do you. At the end of a very long and winding journey, there you stand alone with your white flag and Hades Door waving; I surrender.
