The Anti American Idol
By Tim Verbeek FOR LA2DAY.COM 23 Mar 2007

The LAMN jam was a sweet evening – great vibe, and fun time with a lot of great energy, talent, and really good information. I really enjoyed the night and was happy to be included.”
Beth Wimmer, artist and performer
Los Angeles Music Network jams out! LAMN Jam unfolds on the first Monday of each month when artists brave the stage at The Scene, a hip nightclub turned music industry central in Glendale. Listeners, artists and industry gather there for original performances by singer/songwriters. All in real time before your eyes, performers are critiqued and guided by accomplished industry professionals.
Watch sparks fly when expert opinions roll out on artists they evaluate! Feedback can push artists to the next level although when the hot seat heats up, artists defend their music with fiery passion. Constructive criticism is the emphasis for all LAMN Jam participants. Take the chance to show your skills, find collaborators, hone your craft and take creativity higher!
Tim Fagan, an Indie artist at LAMN JAM #1 in April 2005, couldn’t be more enthusiastic. He had his music pitched to a top music supervisor by Walls for the hit TV series “The OC”. “Open mic players would jump to play for this,” says Fagan. Another pleased performer is sultry hip hop artist, Jael Gadsden who says, “I enjoyed being able to perform for people in the business who can offer legitimate feedback”. Jael now works with producer Jan Linder-Koda who is developing her music and presentation. Singer songwriters of all genres receive lyrical, music and performance advice from LAMN experts not to mention offers for work, publishing deals and like Fagan, occasional enter into the tough-to-penetrate inner sanctum of the world of music supervisors. One artist was disappointed in panelist feedback. Farshad Rezai explains, “I am an artist, this is how I express myself,” in response to panelist input. While the feedback he received guided him towards commercial success, his goals in the industry lie outside the mainstream.
LAMN Jam is today’s antidote to American Idol, where you see what it takes to succeed as a musical artist in the modern world. LAMN Jam is create for - but not limited to - LAMN members but others are welcome to perform, the monthly events are open to the public and admission is free. Performers agree that this is an event of integrity, original music, creative minds with the ability to re-infuse positive energy into a rapidly changing business where music is so often commodotized and under-valued.
