THE BUZZ= Vampire Weekend
By LA2DAY FOR LA2DAY.COM 01 Apr 2008

Indie-rock meets Afrobeat style in the quirky, infectiously fun music of Vampire Weekend . The four bandmates Ezra Koenig, Rostam Batmanglij, Christopher Tomson, and Chris Baio have been stars on the rise since the release of their self-titled debut album in January 2008. Blending everything from ska, classical, African dance, and rock music with heady, obtuse lyrics, this New York based quartet is proving to be a fresh new addition to the indie scene. Garnering comparisons to Paul Simon, The Kinks, and The Walkmen, they are at the very least in good company stylistically.
Currently on their first major tour, they will be covering North America and ending off at Coachella 2008 in Indio, California. With a roster of sold out shows, recognition from Rolling Stone, and coveted appearances on SNL and Letterman, it seems these guys are only gaining steam with every passing month. Keep your eyes peeled and your throat covered or you too might get bitten by the vampire bug.
Lyrics to A-Punk, their successful single:
'A-Punk'
| MEET LA2DAY's other Buzz Band: MGMT |
Johanna drove slowly into the city
The Hudson River all filled with snow
She spied the ring on His Honor's finger
Oh-oh-oh
A thousand years in one piece of silver
She took it from his lilywhite hand
Showed no fear - she'd seen the thing
In the Young Men's Wing at Sloan-Kettering
Look outside at the raincoats coming, say OH
His Honor drove southward seeking exotica
Down to the Pueblo huts of New Mexico
Cut his teeth on turquoise harmonicas
Oh-oh-oh
I saw Johanna down in the subway
She took an apartment in Washington Heights
Half of the ring lies here with me
But the other half's at the bottom of the sea
