LA2DAY Gets One More Tune With Tom Middleton

At the end of any good night out, it's inevitable that the DJ is going to hit you with one more song to send you on your merry way and out into the night on what is hopefully a musical high. Our stand-by anthems from recent years would range from the likes of U2, Jay-Z or Coldplay but in the world of dance music, maybe Daft Punk, Paul Oakenfold or The Prodigy would spring to mind. But one of the brightest minds in the world of electronic music belongs to Tom Middleton, who has recently put together an impressive collection called One More Tune, which features "future and underground classic anthems" that we guarantee will soon become your own personal picks to end your night.
Tom is one of those artists that always is onto something well before it breaks, a true tastemaker if you will, and his own productions from his multitude of recording aliases have soundtracked some of the most meaningful moments in my life. He also boasts one of my top five albums of all-time with his extremely intimate and important Lifetracks, which is an album that lives up to it's title in every way imaginable.
"I deal with emotions and sound," Tom told me. "In my music, whether it's dance music or listening music, for me it's about discovering those pieces that have more than your usual kind of two dimensional track. I'm after 3 or 4 dimensions in sound, music that makes the hair on the back of your neck stand up...I want people to have goosebumps."
Goosebumps are a given any time Tom touches a track and on this album he's lovingly retouched almost every single anthem here. Each track is packed full of all the emotion and melody your ears could ever want and best of all there's not a single "filler" track, just one certified, end-of-the-night banger after the next, except you feel as though you're in on an amazing secret as opposed to hearing "Don't Stop Believing" for the millionth time.

"There's plenty of anthemic album compilations out there, so this is really a story about what makes a One More Tune, what is it about a One More Tune that is more sort of timeless and emotionally satisfying than other tracks," Tom explained. "All of the tracks on this album, I consider to be the qualities that give them One More Tune status and that is emotions in sound."
Tom has played tastemaker in my life endless times, as he has turned me onto music through his compilations and DJ sets from the likes of Ulrich Schnauss, Rae & Christian, Blu Mar Ten and most recently Jon Hopkins. Each of these artists are unique and different in sound and yet all have played an equally important role in the soundtrack that is my life.
"For me, I know that certain pieces of music have more emotional quantity than others," Tom explained. "Regardless of the generation, age, sex, sexuality, language, there are certain pieces of music that I know I can play anywhere in the world and they will elicit the same response."

There are music lovers and then there are true tastemakers such as Tom. In speaking with him, you can hear the passion he has for music hang on every word he speaks. He also welcomes and loves to learn and is all too happy to hear of any good tunes you can toss his way.
"I invite communication feedback, actively encourage it in fact," he happily told me. "Go to my myspace - - I'm not shy to connect with people, for me it's a way to really sort of find out about the music that's connecting and reaching people. I think it's really important."
Just take a listen to any cut from this composer's classic back catalog and hear for yourself just how important and emotionally satisfying music can be when put into the hands of a true musical Jedi.
