Woody Allen’s Threesome: Vicky Cristina Barcelona

I have always been a big fan of Woody Allen, from the early comedy albums, to seeing him do stand-up and play jazz in Michaels to the wonderful films. It was always a treat to look forward to the next release, some were absolute gems especially Crimes and Misdemeanors, which I think is a masterpiece, but things unfortunately started to go downhill in the last few years. He was definitely off his game, reaching bottom with the awful Cassandra’s Dream, so I didn’t expect much from this one. Well what a pleasant surprise, ladies and gentlemen, Woody is back!

This is a beautifully written, acted, and directed fusion of love, obsession, lust, and seduction. The city of Barcelona looks amazing and the performances that Mr. Allen wrings out of these actors is I think the best of their careers. Javier Bardem, Penelope Cruz, and Scarlett Johansson light up the screen with their sexual energy. All the supporting actors are terrific and the dialogue is delicious, suffice it to say, I really enjoyed this film and I urge you to see it.
