Shrek the Third

The latest installment of the successful Shrek story has exactly what you expect: A reluctant hero, a devoted wife, cute animals, and a dastardly villain. Did I mention the sing along soundtrack?

If your kids haven't bugged you to take them yet or if you're in the mood for some light-hearted laughter, this movie should be at the top of your list!

The basic premise of the story: Fiona's father, the current king, has died and Shrek is heir apparent. Well, not the only one. Mixing fairy tale and British myth, the other heir to the throne is Arthur Pendragon. As I explained to my six year-old son, Arthur is destined to be the King (of something) and pursue the Holy Grail. But that's another story. Shrek and his friends, Donkey and Puss in Boots, gallivant across the countryside for Arthur.

What this film doesn't provide: Heart wrenching introspection or even a statement on the world today. It's a children's movie, rated PG, and is great for pure escapism.

Shrek the Third is directed by Chris Miller and Raman Hui. Official movie site: www.shrek.com. View the trailer at Apple.

What the Shrek?

Short, sweet and to the point. I suspect some movies are just pure entertainment. I did find Aurther's speech at the end of the film worth repeating. He states, in essence, that the only thing that stands in the way of one becoming his/her full potential is themselves. How true.
