300 Times the Charm
By Lucky Clover FOR LA2DAY.COM 08 May 2007
SPARTANS!!! WHAT IS YOUR PROFESSION?!?! HAAAOOF! HAAAOOF! HAAAOOF! What a glorious feeling to walk out of a movie feeling like you want to be a part of something grand and legendary. To die for a country, to die for a cause, such pride, such honor, such valor, it’s quite inspiring. I must admit that I am a tough critic, it takes a lot to impress me, and there is seldom a movie so good and so splendid that it will actually sway me to watch it on the big screen not just once, not twice, but three times.
We all know the story of the 300 Spartans, but never did we feel the story of this glorious tale in our hearts, never did we realize the epic love of a king for his people until it was brought to life in this amazing cinematic work of art.
The Cinematography: The ongoing motif of grays and reds did wonders for the movie; there was nothing gloomy about the glowing gray sky and nothing gory about the bloody red spatter. The whole thing was weaved together so flawlessly that there was an air of beauty dancing upon the battlefield, a majestic magnificence of colorless color.
The Music and the Sounds: The narrator’s calm yet roaring voice was pleasing and inviting and ever so enchanting. There was an ease about the way he spoke, a wizard telling a tale of a fantastic legend. The beasts and magical creatures were endowed with mystical voices; titillating and out of this world. The melodies of sweet and serene serenades filled the delicate scenes while roaring orchestras of electric guitars accompanied each battle scene. It was a grandiose spectacle of serious delights.
The Script: The narrator took the viewer on not just a journey but a spiritual pilgrimage of honor, love, courage, and mystic phenomena. The dialogue was always curt and to the point, with metaphoric add-ons and cryptic phrases. “…our arrows will blot out the sun” “then we shall fight in the shade.” With majesty and verve a story is told, a distinguished and true story of a Spartan legacy. Soldier: “My King, it is an honor to die at your side.” King: “And it is an honor to have lived at yours.”
The Cast: A collection of talented performers playing the roles they were born to play. King Leonidas, king of kings, a man amongst men, a husband, a father, a friend, a warrior. King: “Give them nothing -- but take from them everything.”
A top notch performance by the whole cast along with state of the art “Matrix-like” visual effects made this film an absolute delight to watch. With each viewing I was instantly transposed into a world of fantasy full of very chilling realities. The “three” motif followed throughout the whole movie. Three elephants, three men to restrain the captain, three beasts, and the three generals form Xerxes’ army.
I do not only recommend this movie to everyone but I also encourage for everyone to watch it at least once. There is something so intriguing about a story put into the hands of incredible artists. The legend has come alive and Leonidas reigns again and again and again as a magistrate king, a man with a purpose, a man equaling three men. HAAAOOF! HAAAOOF! HAAAOOF!

Movie: 300
I must agree. I have also watched 300 at the theaters not once but several times, for the same reasons you so gracefully wrote about in your article. 300 possesses what Gladiator and Troy had and also what they both lacked. If I had never seen or even heard about this movie, this article would have been the reason for me standing in a long line at a local AMC to watch 300. Great Article. SPARTANS!!!
Thanks Tim! I guess the
Thanks Tim! I guess the only was to find out is to see the movie.

Dear Shopping Cart, Thank
Dear Shopping Cart,
Thank you for your comments, heroes are not born everyday, remember Paris in Troy or Commodus in Gladiator? Makes you sick doesn’t it? Aah and then we meet Hector, and Maximus, and now Leonidas, and once again the equilibrium of the warrior world has been leveled. I can see that movie 300 more times as I’m sure you can too. HAAOOF!!! Hail to the King of kings.
Sincerely,
Lucky Clover
