I’m a Smoothie!: The African Red Tea Body Cocktail at Ole Henriksen
By Jolie Loeb FOR LA2DAY.COM 09 May 2008

Night blooming Jasmine perfumes the breeze. Dusk does its dance long after the clock strikes six, and sparrows sing a song of springtime arrived. Rub your eyes fellow Angelinos; it's the most wonderful time of the year. Spring flirts with summer and cashmere makes way for crisp linen. And the masters at Ole Henriksen have hatched a new treatment that'll spring clean you jump, jive, and wail.
Truth be told - after my life-altering pedicure at Ole Henriksen, I felt like the kid who had the best time at the birthday party but couldn't stay for cake. There was a whole Ole empire to explore and I was aching for a second helping.
Never has my judgment been so astute.
Take my hand and let me dance you through this rapturous waltz. In a dimly candlelit room, you're horizontally situated as Jody works her reflexology upon you. She is ruthless: localizing your pressure points and stopping at nothing to release your cricks and tweaks. You are putty: perfect fodder for the succeeding warm sugar scrub.
I for one love a good sugar scrub. Exfoliating your outer layer while leaving you scented something sublime - all good, every time. But to have the sugar scrub expertly applied - this elevates the experience to entirely new heights. And once you've been buffed and polished - the rinsing is where the good fun really begins. With your eyes gently masked by a cloth, six colossal showerheads (the kind you've pined for through the Waterworks window) douse you from above. This feels so good it's silly. Turn over, get sugar scrubbed, and do it all over again.
Sugar scrubbed and squeaky clean, warm oranges are juiced upon your skin, followed by crushed African red tealeaves and yogurt. Like a papoose, you are cocooned into a full body wrap as the citrus and antioxidants permeate your outer layer. All the while, Jody massages deep conditioning lavender into your scalp, and tea bags soothe your weary eyes.
Lavender. Crushed African red tealeaves and yogurt. Warmed orange halves following a warm sugar scrub. The old adage holds. If you are what you eat, get ready to want to eat what you are.
If you have a special day, please give this to yourself. If you have a special friend, please give this to them. The African Red Tea Body Cocktail is an outrageous luxury and by God we all deserve to feel this good at least once, if only once. Waking the next morning, with skin of silk and spun satin hair, it's so good it tickles. I've had the Ole pedicure; I've now had the Ole body treatment. Two parts to the probable trifecta. Facial, here I come.
