Health & Beauty Black Belt: Tasha Adams
By Leah Melby FOR LA2DAY.COM 05 Aug 2008

In a world where grown-ups turn to doctors and therapists and children to teachers and camp counselors, who is it that the young twentysomethings search out when seeking for beauty and style advice in Los Angeles?
The answer, lovely reader, is truly right in front of you. Our generation is one that adores the internet. We grew up with AOL and unofficial biographies immortalized through away messages. Is there any surprise that our gurus come in the guise of bloggers? Racked, one of today’s biggest style blogs, began in New York City and pleased savvy west coasters when it quickly expanded. Racked LA’s editor Tasha Adams comes with experience from Angeleno, Women’s Wear Daily and Daily Candy. Lucky for us Gen-Y’ers, her style smarts are now poured into Racked LA.
1.) What’s the best part of your job?
I'm inherently interested in retail and fashion , so I've always paid attention to what's going on in the LA landscape in this regard. That being said, the site demands an entire new level of vigor in terms of covering the city's retail, which is a challenge, but at the end of the day, I'm glad to be so well informed.
2.) What's the most valuable beauty tip you've gotten over the years?
Whatever you apply topically to your body is being absorbed into your body, so be mindful of what you're slathering.
3.) What beauty product could you not live without?
Egyptian Magic—it's still the best all-around salve for everything from cuticles and elbows to lip balm and, in a pinch, to de-frizz fly-away hair.
4.) What's your favorite beauty product to give as a gift?
Something that's somewhat luxurious but useful —a palette of Chanel glosses, Tocca body cream, Kai body wash, or something from Anthousa, which does bath and body, plus all these fantastic room fragrances.
5.) Desert island. One beauty product.
Moisturizer with SPF. Lately, I've been using La Roche-Posay.
6.) Smart beauty pick for travel carry-on?
Ojon Hair Care makes travel-sized products. I love the product and all the bottles are very reusable.
7.) Who do you find to be the most beautiful person, dead or alive?
In terms of style and beauty, I always admired my aunt Trynka. When I was thirteen, she took me to thrift shops in Berkeley and I bought this amazing barely-worn sapphire-hued Christian Dior blouse for under $10. It was this early fashion moment for me, where we both appreciated the literal thriftiness, as well as the luxury of the find.
