How To: Get Sexy, Messy Beach Hair
By Jenny Karl FOR LA2DAY.COM 26 Aug 2008

So, you spent the day at the beach frolicking in the salty water and you just lost track of the time. Now you only have a few minutes to spend on your hair before your big night out! Lucky you, messy is totally in style. The wind-blown beach hair look, or the just rolled out of bed look, seems to be the new fab hair style. It's simple, it works with any outfit, and it takes no time at all to achieve.
Recently many celebs have even rocked the messy hair look. Jennifer Aniston, Jessica Biel, and Kate Hudson have been seen on the red carpet sporting their versions of beach hair. If your hair is long and naturally wavy, this is an easy look for you to accomplish. However, if your hair is short or straight, you may need to create that beachy look with products.

Here are some simple steps you can do to easily recreate this look.
1. If you have access to the ocean, bottle up some of that all natural hair potion and use it as needed along with my good friend the blow dryer to create this style. It's the most authentic styling product you can get and also the least expensive. Just apply and scrunch. Yes, I said scrunch. Break out that 80's handbook and do some scrunching, but don't you dare touch any Aquanet. That would be disastrous. If you need a little extra hold, try Paul Mitchell working spray or roundtrip creme.
2. You can also cook up a batch of your own salt water brew at home by combining your bottled water of choice, and a pinch or ten of household salt. I prefer the kosher variety. Combine the water and salt in a large spray bottle, shake it up, and spray it on your lovely locks until you smell the seaweed.
3. If all else fails, then most beauty supply stores, salons, or websites that cater to hair-care carry products that emulate that sandy salt water that is the bread and butter of creating this look.
Tip: Although you may need to do a little hairspray action or a minor wet down, whatever you do, don't even think about putting a comb or brush to those chaotic locks! Let your hair flow naturally and give it the freedom to do its own thing.
The moral of this story, embrace the knots and the mess. It is the essence of the beach hair look!
