LOS ANGELES, today - the first tipoff of the 2010 Nike 3 on 3 Basketball Tournament, event organizers today announced a record number of registered teams will participate in second-annual event.

More than 1,000 teams will compete on regulation courts set up for this weekend’s tournament in Nokia Plaza L.A. LIVE and along Chick Hearn Ct. just outside of STAPLES Center for prizes and basketball supremacy, more than doubling the number participants from last year’s inaugural tournament. The general public is encouraged to participate in the event by coming to L.A. LIVE to cheer on their favorite team and enjoy the free Nike 3 on 3 Fan Fest also taking place Aug. 6-8 at L.A. LIVE, outside STAPLES Center and along Chick Hearn Court.

The Nike 3 on 3 Fan Fest, free to the public, will feature live music and entertainment, slam-dunk contests, and basketball-themed activities for participating athletes, the general public, family and friends.

Every one of the more than 3,000 registered participants will play a minimum of three games against top quality competition within brackets which are organized by experience, height, age and gender. Additionally, registered athletes will receive one ticket to a 2010 Los Angeles Clippers basketball game, $25 ESPN Zone gift card*, official Nike 3 on 3 Basketball Tournament shirt, POWERADE drawstring backpack and drink*, Frito-Lay snack samples and SpiderTech kinesiology tape.

Last year’s inaugural 3 on 3 tournament played host to more than 500 teams and thousands of spectators, making it the largest organized basketball event in Los Angeles.
