We Love: Rotter and Friends

You just call out her name, and you know wherever she is, she'll come running to see you again. Winter, spring, summer or fall, all you have to do is call and she'll be there. You've got a friend.  A fashion friend.

Rotter and Friends

Jess Rotter is your fashion friend, hence her label Rotter and Friends, the whimsitastical line of tees that'll wrap round you like a warm cuddle-bear and bring a smile of jib-jab-joy and make you feel like you'll never be alone again. In this cold and brooding world of economical nightmares and self-destructive terrorists, of crass wars and mad presidents, it's nice to see something so overtly overjoyed, so wonderfully wonderful, so gloriously gleeful, so blatantly blissful as Rotter's illustrations - inspired by the works of Roky Erickson, Linda Ronstadt and Willie Nelson -, illustrations that are often so fantastical and so detailed, they could have fallen off of John Tenniel's pen.

Rotter and Friends

I rarely wear illustrated tees, finding that there just aren't a helluva lot of interesting ones to choose from. Of late, I've only had two that struck my fancy - my Serge Gainsbourg and my Leonard Cohen silk screened tees - but Mademoiselle Rotter's whimsy has not only doubled my collection, but has trebled it! Yes, I readily, happily, joyfully wear four of the collection, loving each one, gaining compliments as I wander down streets. The colors bring smiles, the cotton is soft and the grin on me ole face is palpable. I wore them all weekend, skipping through the streets, whistling Skip-a-dee-do-da, happier than I've been in some time... friendship has that effect on me.
