This story begins in 1996 - Cheng Gourong left his village of Tuo Ling, near Nanchang, in China. He was only 20 years old and ambitious and headed to the big city of Ningbo.

Initially, everything went as planned - he got a job and was earning enough to get his life going - he married a girl back in his village and sent money home for her and their two sons they had later.

But then things took a turn for the worse and all his savings were stolen. This event affected him deeply and things went from bad to worse, leaving him jobless and on the streets. Shamed that he was not able to support his family he stopped all contact with them.

However, one day, strolling the streets an amateur photographer took pictures of him and posted them on the internet.

His unique look grabbed attention.

Back at home, Cheng's family had no idea what was going on. Although they did try to find him they assumed he was dead. But when they saw his picture on the internet they were over the moon. Unfortunately, Cheng's return was not a happy one. Cheng was reunited with his family to discover that his wife and father had been killed in a car accident. Since then Cheng has been trying to come to terms with everything - his celebrity status, death and the years he spent on the streets. Now, to complete the U-turn Chinese film producer Deng Jianguo has decided to make a film about Cheng's amazing life. Cheng is reportedly in his village taking things easy.
