The Tranquil Lake of Silverlake

Lustrous and "Humble", Light and Calm, that is what I call Lake. Walking into this charming boutique, known as Lake on Rowena, is a breath of fresh air for anyone who shops in the chaos of LA. An old world style radiates from the windows of the shop as passers by gravitate toward the store. That is how I ended up inside on a Friday afternoon and was greeted by a vision of tranquility, a nostalgic reminder of what it’s like to shop in Paris.
Melissa Lovoy, a New Yorker, had wanted to own her own boutique since the age of twelve. She studied at the famed college of design, Otis, and spent a few years working in fashion, but something inside was itching for a change. Three years ago, Melissa and her husband made a life altering decision and moved to Los Angeles to pursue a dream. On February 13 th, only a few weeks ago, Melissa opened doors to her very own boutique. She had previously occupied a space within Patty Faye called Truth & Beauty which ultimately led to the opening of Lake.
With the help of her renowned photographer husband, Chris Fortuna, and sister, Lori Lovoy-Goran, Melissa has taken what she knows best and applied to this radiant place. This is the boutique that one should visit looking for a one of a kind piece, perhaps by a local designer, that can be worn confidently out to a premiere, knowing that no one else will be wearing the same. The tones and the styles of the clothes equally compliment the organic space that they occupy. Subtle, yet unique, affordable yet high-end; a combination hard to come by. The ingenious balance of this store also allows its clientele to pick up clothes and accessories for both men and women in a one stop shop. She carries pieces by Mike & Chris, James Perse, Phillip Lim, Nile Lotan, and Mimo just to name a few and prices range anywhere from $50 to $500. You can also find precious beauty items or exclusive gifts for the home starting as low as $5. For more information, visit Lake on 2910 Rowena Ave. in Los Angeles, CA or call (323) 664-6522.
