The Look: Joanna Holden

Recently transported from Dallas to Los Angeles, graphic designer and painter Joanna Holden has a knack for lines, placement and visual aesthetic. Working at her Venice studio, just blocks from Abbot Kinney, she casually laughs with intent and determination while an array of dogs frolics in the garden. Perhaps it is her endearing Texan accent, proper vest, legs for days and heels combo, mixed with an asymmetrical sculpted mane that really adds that extra flair needed for this week's Look.
Even though she doesn't have to go far from her bedroom to her studio - as it's in her backyard - she still respects the concept of being well put together, creating a non-obtrusive color pallet of darks and lights. The double layer Development tanks hang loosely and reveal a slightly shear opaque color, offering a casual vibe of comfort and style. In contrast, the classic pin-striped vest creates a more professional, antiquated vibe; refinement layering freedom. But Joanna carries her own flag, and plays this look up by showing her varied spectrum of tattoos. Original and tasteful, they wrap up and around her arms, displaying her own artistic vision and autonomy. Her turquoise heart matches the stone necklace in perfect harmony, bouncing waves of cerulean off opposites sides her frame.
And those high-waisted denim shorts with sailor buttons? Love them! How they compliment the vest and really pull the look off so eagerly suggests a new, more forward take on the suit.
Inching down, black patent leather pointed heels step it up for the extra kicker. The timelessness is apparent; a splash of suited 30s with subtle 80s mesh in a cohesive manner that simply works.
Joanna could be sitting at her desk designing a poster or at a speakeasy listening to Billie Holiday. From head to toe, she really is the kindest badass I've seen in these parts of town. Welcome home.
