The Brazilian designer Ivan Aguilar first caught my attention at the Rio A/W 08 Fashion Week with a strikingly brilliant ensemble of a jacket, waistcoat, unkempt neck-tie, black-and-white checkered trousers, leg-warmers and Pumas. In a recent interview I sited him as one of my favourite designers the world over.
Having been bringing thread to needle since the age of seven, when he first began dabbling in the workshop of his mother, Ivan has elevated himself to becoming one of the most preeminent South American designer. On the eve of the presentation of his new line at the Summer Fashion Rio, Ivan sits down to discuss Tom Cruise, Nancy Reagan and underpants.
