Beyond Netting and Nylon: A Peek into Brian Lichtenberg’s A/W 2009 Collection

What is more striking about Brian Lichtenberg than his pixie red hair is his penchant for polarities. The Silverlake-based fashion designer brings the 1980s back to the future in his Autumn/Winter 2009 Collection with metallic auburns and golds paired with space-age cuts and hair-decked accessories.

You'll swear you've just crash-landed on Earth during the year 3978 with Lichtenberg's deep-v long-sleeve bodysuit. The t-shaped suit features pointy 80s-tailored shoulder pads and sliced hologram scales. Clap your eyes on the spaceship crown topped off with monkey hair. It will get you ready for that lobotomy appointment with Dr. Zaius.

Lichtenberg's designs crisscross gender lines with unisex fit and universal cuts. Barely-there tricot tanks and dresses are intended for men and women alike. Moreover, his choice of 7-foot female and post-op male models merits his runway shows an LA Fashion Week must-see.

Opting for more staid colors with his signature lace and hologram leggings this season, Lichtenberg's black and white leggings are trimmed with silver foil cut-outs. The asymmetrically appealing tights are favorites of celebrity fans M.I.A. and Peaches.

Lichtenberg has a real knack for making paradoxes parallels. By piecing together seamless patterns and textures, he travels through manifold dimensions and time.
