Upon entering a new place there is an occasional sense of complete familiarity, almost as though one is experiencing déjà vu, though slightly more mysterious. Enter Madley, a fantastical boutique residing just blocks from Venice Beach on Abbott Kinney. After traipsing in from a comfortable stroll down the strip of cafes and shops, my lashes started to flutter as my pupils zoned in on the treasure chest of treats. With an effulgence of light cascading a warm glow upon colored crystals and paintings by Kime Buzelli of Show Pony, every item becomes illuminated.

Primarily vintage and deconstructed pieces, owner and designer Coryn Madley makes elaborate knit garbs, from 60s inspired triangle bikini tops to feminine hobo-esque sweaters and scarves. The plethora of her handmade jewelry can be found resting upon the necks of floppy-hat-clad mannequins and abalone shells. Using vintage beads, chains, keys, rhinestones, lockets, buttons and yarn, amongst other trinkets, a web of romantic dreams are spun into graceful perfection. There is a deep appreciate for natural disposition throughout all of the pieces, from oceanic shells to mountainous leaf-like feathers, and as nature intended uniquely individual, not one-alike.

Fingering through the colorful racks I'm reminded of rainbows and eccentric dilettantes, wild flappers and thrashing groupies. Braided headbands, sequined dresses and silk shams hang out with 70s minis and fitted coats. Crocheted vests and leather skirts mix and match while rows of high heeled boots stare across the room. A pair of raspberry colored snakeskin pumps rest against a Stevie Nicks record, while the ceiling chandelier twinkles down on a metallic purse below.

Lost in the dreamy light and electric colors, I realized the familiarity in these beautiful garbs and jewels stem from the warmth they emanate from past lives and generations. A cool breeze filters through the store, and I am brought back to this modern era; a conglomeration of venerable collectibles and avant-garde creations.
