Boutique: Amal Guessous

MELROSE DISTRICT. If musicians were to hold a convention in a boutique - why they would do this, I have no idea - I'm pretty sure they'd choose Amal Guessous on Melrose Ave as the venue. It's got your classic ostentatious rock vibe - a table of leather chairs adorned with sterling silver grommets and crocodile crosses, walls lined with Kiss, AC/DC, the Beatles - and its clothes are worn by Paul Stanley, Bon Jovi, and Monsieur Johnny Hallyday.

"It's so funny people come in here and sit straight down," laughs Donna, the manager who loves a good story and can tell a pretty decent one herself. But how could you not? One could only hope to channel the power of the Sex Pistols, whose collection is featured in a boutique embellished with the customized touches of Her Majesty the Queen (Lizzie to you) ravished in Swarovski crystals. God has saved the Queen, and she looks f-ing fabulous!

And then, amidst the rock ‘n' roll chaos, is the final touch: big ole glass cases with jewelry that's seemingly described as "zen pirate booty." Illuminated with skulls, crosses, and very feminine fleur de lis, the items take the term "rocking out" literally. (By rocking, I mean rocks, like jewels, ya know? Stay with me, kids.)

Still not finding your inner Blondie? Bring in your favorite item and have the talented ateliers transform your everyday rags to Rock and Roll Couture. You've got no excuse now to stay lame.
