The Top 5: Octoberfests in LA
By Kat Kittredge FOR LA2DAY.COM 01 Oct 2008

Okay Angelenos, it's time for Oktoberfest - which is German for "binge drinking festival." Here are a few places that may tempt you to wet your whistle... Just remember to leave the beer goggles at home...
5. MONTROSE OKTOBERFEST

Saturday October 4th from noon to 11PM enjoy an authentic outdoor German Festival and Oktoberfest. Live entertainment on two different stages will be the focus of all the fun, as well as an outdoor beer garden and authentic German food. Who can resist big soft pretzels, schnitzels, sausages, and of course, that German elixer we are all so fond of. Carnival games and rides, authentic German merchandise and crafts will keep the whole family yoddling.

4. JAGERHAUS GERMAN RESTAURANT
If you find yourself at an Angel's game and need to get your German on, head over to one of Southern California's most authentic and revered locales. The décor isn't very impressive, but the food makes up for it. Venison and boar are some of the best dishes offered, as well as a heafty list of German beers and wines. With a name like Jagerhause, I'm tempted to relive my college days of Jagermeister with my Mister. Oktoberfest specials throughout the month.

3. GORDON BIERSCH

Gordon Biersch puts the fest in Oktoberfest with Bavarian style beers, German sausages and strudels. This October Gordon Biersch will be tapping Festbier, a beautiful bronze lager that embodies all the best of Bavaria. The jagerschnitzel is pretty darn good, and nothing is quite as satisfying after a night of sampling German beers and the chicken dance... well, almost. Happy hour and Oktoberfest specials all month.

2. RED LION TAVERN
Everyday is Oktoberfest at the Red Lion Tavern. Happy hour runs daily from 3-6 and everything is 20% off, which makes an early dinner very affordable. If you are looking for more oomph in your oom pa pa, stay for the live music Tuesday - Saturday. This is home of the most authenic German Sausage in LA, and as a fan of schnitzel, I have to say, this is crisp on the outside, tender and juicy on the inside. Entrees run $6-19. The atmosphere is lively without being a complete debauchery.
