The French Dip is relatively simple, but amazingly easy to screw up. You know, the bread is too hard, the au jus is watered down, or there's some ghastly fixing schmeared about.
The places on our list not only managed to get everything right, they got it so good you'll want a French Dip morning noon and night. Smokin!
5. BUCHANAN ARMS
It's strange to think that a British pub has a good French dip, but it does. As with all pubs, this is a no frills kinda deal, just sandwich, French fries and au jus. But it gets the job done. Wash down with a pint of cider. Afterwards, pop next door and get yourself some British goods to-go at the shop.

4. THE DIP
It's just a stand on a random corner in Sherman Oaks, but you know when a place is only serving you dips, they must be good. The dips here could be a little bigger, but they're still great. They pre-dip them, so eat it quick or it's going to be a soggy sandwich. Great for on the go.

3. THE 101
As far as coffee shops go, the 101 is one of my faves. The jukebox is rocking, the malts are outta sight, and the French dip is delish. (Although I think it is blasphemous to serve it with lettuce and tomato, as they do).
The beef is flavorful and juicy, the roll is soft and great for dipping, and their mashed potatoes and French fries are equally tasty. What a choice!

2. THE TALLYRAND
Tucked away in Burbank off of Olive, this diner is like the one you always wished about come to life. It blows other diners away easily. Every dish is perfect, the service quick and efficient, and the prices low. Their French dip (and their turkey dip, too!) is the best diner French dip around. No fuss, no muss, just a great sandwich.
