Move over Mickey, there’s a new Happiest Place in town

Tucked away in a converted 1924 Hollywood duplex behind an umbrella clad garden lives Grub. Born from the infectious enthusiasm and billowing talents of Grub Gals Betty Fraser and Denise Decarlo, this comfort food celebration cooks it up, sprinkles it with sunshine, and hits it home. The kick your boots off vibe and down home charm is present in everything from pancakes to potatoes. I should know. I ate both.

We went for brunch. Let me preface by saying I am religiously devoted to brunch. I take my brunch fare seriously. I am scrutinizing. I know my way around a Nova.

For starters, the menu positively delights in culinary creativity. Clearly the combined efforts of an Arkansassy native and a San Franciscan treat, the act of selecting an entrée put this kid back in the candy store. Innovative, inspired, and a better read than most children’s books, I encourage you to come hungry.

I couldn’t resist sampling the Berry, Berry Good Pancakes: a blueberry-granola concoction punctuated with candied ginger, boysenberry syrup, topped with a dollop of raspberry butter. Zests of lemon dance throughout. Brace yourself.

Their signature scrambles arrive piled high with your choice of toast, including raisin should you go that way (I always do), and I dare say the best breakfast potatoes this side of Idaho. All kinds of crispy.

Your coffee mug will never go cold and your eyes will never grow bored – the homespun décor directly reflects the dishes – casual, comical, and too friendly to believe you’re in the heart of Hollywood. Except that you are. Hipster hoopla, forget about it.

Open 11am-3pm Mondays-Fridays, 9am-2pm on the weekends, this little nook will sate your hunger and charm your spirits. Awarded Citysearch’s Best Lunch and Brunch Spot in Los Angeles three years running, home cooking has found its haunt. Giddy up.
