STANDING AROUND NAKED FOR MONEY
By Robyn Ewing FOR LA2DAY.COM 21 May 2008

DCA Fine Art gets its art on, and its panties off, hosting a revival of its hugely popular "Live Draw!" this Saturday night. Nudes are drawn by artists in front of a live audience, which, as you sniffy fine art majors know, is a total breach of life drawing class protocol. These are not nakeds! They are nudes!
Having come from a classically trained fine art background, no matter how utterly useless this education has been to my financial stability, I find this peanut gallery ogling a little bit smarmy. To remedy this, and make the event More Than It Can Be, come on down and drop trou as well. Just a suggestion! Heck, full frontal willies have swung their way into the movies, so why not the historically prissy sanctuary of sketching from life? I'll tell you why. It will be the end of civilization and by that I mean high tea and crumpets. Whatever a crumpet is. But this is America! And some of us have to take our art any way we can get it. And if this gets some lay-abouts out of their bungalows to see art in the making, then weeha!
This needs to be on its own line: At last year's event, one artist did his sketches in ketchup.
Come see what other picnic condiment mediums the artists utilize. Artists such as David Schoffman, master life drawing master, Alejandro Gehry, post-pop erotica artist and son of architect Frank Gehry, if someone's dad is a big deal to you, and Katina Zinner, abstract painter, film editor, and daughter of Oscar-winning film editor Peter Zinner, ibid on the famous dad comment.
Art & Design reporter Jordan Whitley will be there taking comments, with clothes on, I think.
Live Art! 2008 takes place at DCA Fine Art, 3107 Pico Blvd., Santa Monica on Sat., May 24 from 7-10pm. Tickets cost $45 pre-sale and $55 at the door. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the arts program atSMASH, a neighborhood public school.
